MACU Ranked 21st in 50 Most Affordable Selective Small Colleges for a Psychology Degree 2015

December 03, 2015

Elizabeth City, NC – December 3, 2015.  Best Psychology Degrees has recognized Mid-Atlantic Christian University as one of the best and most affordable small colleges in the nation to study psychology. The program at Mid-Atlantic is a 127-credit program that combines a Biblical Studies major with a Counseling and Psychology major leading to BA or BS degrees. Program outcomes include understanding how emotional, spiritual, and mental needs impact relationships and personal growth and developing marketable skills for paraprofessional careers in education, rehabilitation, the justice system, mental health or pastoral counseling. Both tracks involve internship training in counseling settings. Coursework explores marriage and family counseling, human sexuality, spiritual development, cross-cultural communication and human services. Many MACU graduates continue in master’s or doctoral work leading to professional licensure.

Colleges included in the ranking met three specific criteria. First, an undergraduate psychology degree offered in an on-campus or online format; Second, must have a student population of less than 3,000 students; and Third, report a 40 percent or lower admissions rate, which identifies the most selective schools. Data used to formulate the ranking list was obtained from the College Navigator website, part of the National Center for Education Statistics.

The Best Psychology Degrees website state that job opportunities for those studying psychology are increasing and that the field is expected to grow by 12% before the year 2022. An aspiring psychologist can earn an affordable psychology degree that can lead to employment in human resources, occupational counseling, mental health, aging services, social work, criminal justice, public relations, mentoring or education.

President D. Clay Perkins states, “I am thrilled to see Mid-Atlantic recognized as one of the best and most affordable universities for a student to study psychology and counseling. We have worked tirelessly the last few years to ensure that all of our degree programs are second-to-none and that our graduates are well prepared to serve in the marketplace or the church.”
